Portland Recap

Well, we are back from Portland - and I'm finding some time to post in between all the Easter cooking. So I thought I'd share some of the awesome places we went. But I'm just going to share the new ones. No reason to rehash old posts.

The first thing we did was go to the Tulip Festival at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, Or. As you can see in the picture to the left - it was lovely. Felt just like what I'd imagine Holland to be like. Just rows and rows of color.

The weekend we spent in downtown Portland/SW Portland at The Ace Hotel. This place is just as cool as the Web site makes it seem. Its connected to a Stumptown Coffee shop which solved my daily dose of coffee. There was also a AMAZING deli next door called Kenny & Zuke's. The speciality is pastrami anything - but I loved the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict.

Across the street from the hotel was Living Room Theaters where we saw the great Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Such a small intimate setting for a 3D movie - so it was great!

We went to a small local bar/brew pub called Tugboat Brewing Company which was dark, had bookshelves all over and lots of board games that you could use to keep yourself entertained. Yummy burritos next store too!

Back on the SE side of Portland for the rest of our trip - we hit up some familiar places - but tried some new things too. We explored a lot of Hawthorne Blvd. and found some gems there too.

The Sapphire Hotel, a turn of the century "travelers hotel and brothel" has the dim red look that a seedy joint turned hip should have and the drinks were amazing! Great specialty cocktails.

We also explored Hawthorne during the day the near by homes and gardens are amazing - especially around Ladd's Circle (that's where this picture to the right came from.) We also found this vintage shop called Vintage Pink that had the most amazing furniture. Quiet lucky for our pocket books we couldn't come up with a way to get any of it back to Sacramento.

Anyways, just an amazing vacation. Can't wait to go back and explore new Portland corners. I love it!
